Cutting Through the Subsidy Lies

A good explanation of how subsidies work. Oil company subsidies kick in after they produce the product, as tax write-offs of cost of production. The product is then taxed by the government, producing massive revenue for the government (the people). Green energy subsidies are given directly from taxpayer coffers to companies up front, before anything has been produced, regardless of anything being produced, and is squandered and wasted, leaving a bankrupt company and no jobs. So, which is better?

If you need a bigger picture this guy does a good job of explaining it, just mind the language.

Solyndra Was Not The Only Failure
SunPower, after receiving $1.5 billion from DOE, is reorganizing, cutting jobs.

First Solar, after receiving $1.46 billion from DOE, is reorganizing, cutting jobs.

Solyndra, after receiving $535 million from DOE, filed for bankruptcy protection.

Ener1, after receiving $118.5 million from DOE, filed for bankruptcy protection.

Evergreen Solar, after receiving millions of dollars from the state of Massachusetts, filed for bankruptcy protection.

SpectraWatt, backed by Intel and Goldman Sachs, filed for bankruptcy protection.

Beacon Power, after receiving $43 million from DOE, filed for bankruptcy protection.

Abound Solar, after receiving $400 million from DOE, filed for bankruptcy protection.

Amonix, after receiving $5.9 million from DOE, filed for bankruptcy protection.

Babcock & Brown (an Australian company), after receiving $178 million from DOE, filed for bankruptcy protection.

A123 Systems, after receiving $279 million from DOE, shipped some bad batteries and is barely operating. It cut jobs.

Solar Trust for America, after receiving $2.1 billion loan guarantee from DOE, filed for bankruptcy protection.

Nevada Geothermal, after receiving $98.5 million from DOE, warns of potential defaults in new SEC filings.

And that's a partial list. Can Obama and the DOE pick 'em, or what? And, all those bankruptcies have an effect on green jobs that Obama promised.
See #1 in my previous post.

And, of course, as long as you're doing that, might as well make sure that money benefits your friends and supporters.

Real Life

Just a man rambling about the whys and wherefores of our energy policies. Mild language alert.

How'd They Do?

A part of that plan, of course, is to induce the gradual surrender of American sovereignty piece by piece and step by step to various international organizations of which the United Nations is the outstanding but far from the only example. Here are the aims for the United States:
1. Greatly expanded government spending for every conceivable means of getting rid of ever larger sums of American money as wastefully as possible.
2. Higher, and then much higher taxes.
3. An increasingly unbalanced budget despite the higher taxes.
4. Wild inflation of our currency.
5.Government control of prices, wages and materials supposedly to combat inflation.
6. Greatly increase socialistic controls over every operation of our economy and every activity of our daily lives. This is to be accompanied, naturally and automatically, by a correspondingly huge increase in the size of our bureaucracy and in both the cost and reach of our domestic government.
7. Far more centralization of power on Washington and the practical elimination of our state lines. There is a many faceted drive at work to have our state lines eventually mean no more within the nation than our county lines do now within the states.
8.A steady advance of federal aid to and control over our educational system leading to complete federalization of our public education.
9. A constant hammering into the American consciousness of the horror of modern warfare, the (unintelligible) is of the absolute necessity of peace always, on communist terms of course.
10. The consequent willingness of the American to allow the steps of appeasement by our government to mount to a piecemeal surrender of the rest of the free world and of the United States itself.

Government OUT OF CONTROL

Is this how Obama uses his big stick, on law-abiding citizens he doesn't like?

Is this the philosophy Obama governs by?
"I was in a meeting once and I gave an analogy to my staff about my philosophy of enforcement, and I think it was probably a little crude and maybe not appropriate for the meeting, but I'll go ahead and tell you what I said: It was kind of like how the Romans used to, you know, conquer villages in the Mediterranean. They'd go in to a little Turkish town somewhere, they'd find the first five guys they saw and they'd crucify them. Then, you know, that town was really easy to manage for the next few years."
This is not how America operates, this is how Nazi Germany, Stalin's Russia, Mao's China operates. Richard Nixon is a saint compared to what Obama's administration is doing. And mainstream media and half the country seems to have no problem with it at all.

Should Have Thrown More Money at Her

Swiss Woman Dies After Giving Up Food, Water and Trying to Live Off... Sunlight
Swiss newspaper Tages-Anzeiger reports that a woman starved to death after embarking on a spiritual diet that required her to stop eating or drinking and live off sunlight alone.
Is that the perfect analogy for the green insanity our government is subsidizing or what?

That's the Point, Isn't It

Rural kids, parents angry about Labor Dept. rule banning farm chores
"Losing that work-ethic — it's so hard to pick this up later in life,"
"If I Want America To Fail..." ...I would prohibit production.

This government has done nothing but put obstacles in the path of the productive and work to snuff out the once very American work ethic. And if you have a problem with that they say you are an extremist.

Abuses?

House Democrats launch probe of alleged bribery at Wal-Mart
A pair of top House Democrats disclosed Monday they are investigating allegations that Wal-Mart's Mexican subsidiary paid bribes to speed permits for new-store openings.
This is Mexico. That's how business is done in Mexico. The country and government are corrupt. That's why, personally, I have no interest in ever going to Mexico. But I find it odd that, if I were in Mexico and I had to slip someone a few bucks in order to get something done, the U.S. government might have something to say about it. Besides that, our government is rapidly heading in the same direction.

Doesn't Work That Way

Man Busted Stealing Gas From Cops After Posting Picture of Himself Giving Middle Finger
"I got a little bit of gas. I ain't gonna lie but not much. I couldn't get much. I tried but there wasn’t much in it,"
I'm not surprised he didn't get much because I don't think you can even siphon gas out of cars anymore, they have a block in the tube that prevents a hose from reaching the tank. I had to change the fuel pump on a 1994 car and it was impossible to siphon the gas out that way. I learned that car manufacturers have added that block. That's why gas thieves drill a hole in the bottom of the gas tank to steal gas now.
The station plans on getting lockable gas caps now.
More government waste.

Why Indeed?

Obama lawyer: Birth certificate irrelevant to eligbility
The White House appears to be acting as if the Obama birth certificate is of no consequence in establishing the fact of Obama's birth," Zullo continued.

"Instead of producing the birth certificate to the New Jersey secretary of state and arguing to Judge Masin that the document was legitimate, Obama’s legal counsel did everything she could to keep the document from coming into evidence. Why?"
If he has a birth certificate that proves he was born in Hawaii, why is there so much cover up and misdirection? Not to mention the amount of money that has been spent fighting these legal battles over what they say is nothing.

Welfare Fraud: Lottery Winner Caught Collecting Food Stamps Now Facing Four Years in Jail
A little more than a month after it was revealed that lottery-winner Amanda Clayton was still collecting government benefits via food stamps, she has been arrested and is facing up to four years in jail for fraud.
OK, that makes sense. It's illegal to commit welfare fraud. Then there is this paragraph:
Republican lawmakers are now taking steps to pass a bill that makes it illegal for lottery winners to collect food stamps. The bills, one for the house and one for the senate, stipulate that winners of more than $1,000 must have their names cross-checked with the Department of Human Services before receiving government assistance.
Why? It's already illegal, why do we need another law to make it illegal?

It reminds me of hate-crime laws. Murder is already illegal, murdering someone because you hate them is even more illegal? It depends why you hate them though. And who is doing the hating. All hate is not equal.

Loose Nut

Farrakhan warning: people tomorrow — maybe in a few days — are going to kill their leaders who have been selling them out.
"You want to be leaders, right? You sure, you sure? You better check yourself," he said. "Because leadership is nothing to play with, because people tomorrow — maybe in a few days — are going to kill their leaders who have been selling them out. That's why we're in the shape we’re in right now because we had corrupt people or people who started out good and got corrupted."
I don't pretend to know what this guy is talking about but it makes me wonder if he means Obama, Sharpton, and/or Jesse Jackson - he seems to be talking about black leaders. Or maybe he's just running his mouth. He has spoken of an Obama assassination before. He has made it known of his displeasure with Obama, calling him the "first Jewish President."

Time will tell.

Glenn Beck NRA Speech

I wish every American would listen to this speech, especially when he gets into the meat of it talking about George Washington and the spring of nations. You can find the full speech here, the last video at the bottom.

If you don't know your history you will misunderstand what's happening in the present.

Something is Different

I occasionally have reason to call the police while at work to remove someone who is causing a disturbance. It doesn't happen often but it is routine, or at least it has been. For years they come, ask who and where, and ask them to leave or trespass them. I have the right and I don't abuse it, if it gets to that point they have been warned and they know what is coming.

This past year I've noticed the police don't want to do it. Not a particular officer, I could understand that, but anyone who comes out. Earlier this year they came and said they had to warn them first - I already had warned them. And I'm not talking about an iffy situation. In this situation over a hundred, mostly underage, kids partying in a suite meant for 6 people. They brought their own sound system, I could hear it on the other side of the property. Smoking, drinking and all the rowdiness that goes with it at 1, 2, 3 am. I'm getting calls like crazy from other guest wanting money back or just otherwise rudely telling me to stop it.

OK, so they warn them and leave. They don't stop. I call the police back and they do come out and kick them out - thank you - but they see all the bottles of alcohol - many broken in the room - and tell them all to get in their cars and leave. Now the kids are all over the property hiding from the police, afraid to get in their cars. But the police didn't care anyway.

Tonight I had the same problem on a smaller scale, about 25 people. So the police come to me and say they need to see a signed contract stating our policy. "Seriously?" I show them the "contract." I meet them at the room, they are already inside, people are leaving, beeping horns and otherwise disturbing the peace further. I look inside and there is a hookah all set up and the kids are dismantling it. The police officer is apologizing to them and asking them how much they paid for the hookah (I know it was a hookah because that's what it said on the box), the place is trashed, beer bottles everywhere. So, everyone gets in their cars and leave. I was as nice as can be to the police, always am, but they pretty much gave me the cold shoulder, like I was the problem for getting them to remove a bunch of partiers disturbing my other guests. I would have liked to trespass them all but I know how much paperwork and time that would entail so I don't even go there.

There have been other occasions but not so outrageous. I don't feel like the police are my friend anymore. I don't feel like they have my back. If they absolutely have to help then, well OK, they'll do the least amount possible. This is only in the past year. Things have changed.

Does Not Compute

Wind farms 'not major bird mincers'
Many bird species are unaffected by wind farms, concludes a study carried out by UK bird charities.

"There's certainly no indication in the species we covered in this study that collision mortality is causing a big problem, but we need to bear in mind that it didn't cover the bigger raptors where we know collisions tend to happen," said Jeremy Wilson, head of science at RSPB Scotland.
Why would you leave the birds where you know collisions tend to happen out of the study and then say you don't see any problem with wind farms? That's like studying drunk driving, leaving out drivers who are actually drunk and saying you don't see a problem with drunk driving.

Irresponsible And Unethical

Harvard Prof. Alan Dershowitz: Zimmerman Arrest Affidavit 'Irresponsible And Unethical'

"Most affidavits of probable cause are very thin. This is so thin that it won't make it past a judge on a second degree murder charge," Dershowitz said. "There's simply nothing in there that would justify second degree murder."

Dershowitz said that the elements that would constitute that crime are non-existent in the affidavit. "It's not only thin, it's irresponsible," said Dershowitz.

Dershowitz went on to strongly criticize Corey's decision to move forward with the case against Zimmerman. "I think what you have here is an elected public official who made a campaign speech last night for reelection when she gave her presentation and overcharged. This case will not – if the evidence is no stronger than what appears in the probable cause affidavit – this case will result in an acquittal."
The affidavit reads like the original one sided innocent kid doing nothing wrong chased and gunned down by raving lunatic news stories that started this whole mess. It's already been pretty well established that that's not how this happened, there's a whole lot of shades of gray in this case. Too bad the government officials are more interested in being politically correct than establishing the truth. By allowing the lies to continue to be told like this they are setting up a very dangerous situation, there have already been a couple of revenge attacks from this case.

Old School

Yes, You Do

"We do not prosecute by public pressure or by petition. We prosecute based on the facts on any given case as well as the laws of the state of Florida," Corey said.
But for the public pressure there would probably be no prosecution in this case. There was no grand jury because you could not guarantee the outcome you wanted. Now you have to worry about what happens if Zimmerman is found innocent. Setting the race dogs loose has put the state in a tight spot.

If the Facts Don't Fit, Make Stuff Up

Gwen Ifill and PBS Join the Racial Mob With False Reference to Zimmerman as White"

The dispute over the killing of Martin did not spark a national debate about race. It was the mainstream media, of which Ifill is a prominent member, that forced this national debate about race on everyone by desperately--through omissions, edits, and selective half-truths--trying to use the Martin tragedy as a way to advance their political agenda of getting their audience to see America as a nation of systemic racial inequalities and prejudices.

Quote of the Day

Have you noticed that what modest economic improvements we have seen occurred during the much-lamented "gridlock" in Washington? Nor is this unusual. If you check back through history, doing nothing has a far better track record than that of politicians intervening in the economy.

People who believe in evolution in biology often believe in creationism in government. In other words, they believe that the universe and all the creatures in it could have evolved spontaneously, but that the economy is too complicated to operate without being directed by politicians.

Hatred Helps No One

Unbelievable Audio From the New Black Panthers on Bloody, Anti-Capitalist 'Race War' Against White Devils

"Absolutely, we want the complete removal of capitalism. Why? Because capitalism sets up a class structure and a class society. As I said in the beginning of the "haves" and "have nots," [the] pivotal point is racism, it is racism that keeps them perpetuating a capitalistic motion. So yes, we want capitalism completely eradicated, especially from the minds and hearts and dealings of black people."
How can so many people have so many things so wrong? Capitalism does not set up class structure or class society. No matter what governmental system is employed there are classes of people - some always have more than others. In Communism 1% have everything and 99% have nothing. I guess you can say that's about as fair as can be gotten for the highest percentage of people but then you have to live like North Koreans - any volunteers? I venture to say that even among North Koreans you can find ways to divide people, like between someone who only gets rice to eat and someone who gets rice and a little flavoring. Perhaps some who have done a good job spying for the state get a piece of meat occasionally. Of course, if you are the state you have it made - you can eat whatever and whenever your heart desires. I'm guessing the people of the Black Panthers are assuming they will be the state, not one of the masses. Never assume.

The thing is, only under Capitalism are the classes fluid. You are not stuck where you are and you control what level you live. It might take some work, though, it's not always easy. A penny-less college student struggling to attend class and occupy rallies at 21 could easily be upper middle class by 31 - if the right classes are taken to get a decent degree and effort is put into it. A new (legal) immigrant can work hard and slowly build a business he can be proud of and that more than takes care of the needs of his growing family. It has happened over and over in America. And it's not like the commercials for weight loss pills - "results not typical" - success is typical in America if you work (there's that 4 letter word) the system.

It's all about mindset. We have become increasingly used to getting what we want NOW, but that is not always realistic. Work + Time = Success. And you have to work smart. Digging ditches is a lot of work but if you stay at that level thinking you will own the company one day you are delusional. Of course, you may be satisfied at that level - that's OK! You can rise to the level you are comfortable with, and that may change as circumstances change. You have choices.

Where does all this rage against capitalism come from? It comes from envy, covetousness, greed, and lust. The devil promises a lot but you get less than nothing on delivery. We have been fed and our children are increasingly being fed more and more lies and empty promises. They don't learn how to think at school, they don't learn how to succeed, how to excel. In fact, they learn the exact opposite. Their programming is purposely corrupted by the communist sympathizing educational system to weaken and demoralize them in order to use them against us.

If the New Black Panthers - the black KKK - put as much into bettering themselves as individuals as they do in hating whitey and capitalism they would be doing alright, but for listening to the devil's lies.

I don't know if this makes any sense, just ranting off the top of my head and I'm out of time. It's getting frustrating listening to all the rhetoric lately.

One more thing. Even in Communist countries like the former Soviet Union - I use that example because I know it to be a fact - there was capitalism under the table. There was always a huge black market of goods - clothes, food, gasoline, etc. I knew a girl from Brazil who hated capitalism, but she would come here for vacation. Go figure. But she always said she had little underground businesses going to earn a little something extra - tax free. Capitalism and free enterprise work for EVERYONE. It's the fairest system human beings have come up with and it especially excels when tempered with proper respect and fear of God and His commandments.

Wrong, Wrong, Wrong. A Thousand Times Wrong

Bill Cosby blames 'The Gun'
"Without a gun, I don't see Mr. Zimmerman approaching Trayvon by himself," Mr. Cosby explained. "The power-of-the-gun mentality had him unafraid to confront someone. Even police call for backup in similar situations."

"When you carry a gun, you mean to harm somebody, kill somebody," he said
There is a great deal of responsibility that comes with legal concealed carry of a weapon, it weighs heavily on you. If anything, you are less likely to confront a person, much more likely to let bygones be bygones. This is true for the vast majority of concealed permit holders. Concealed carry permit holders do not WANT to shoot anyone but they understand that there are people out there that do. Bill Cosby is wrong about this.

From a commentary on self-defense from Warrior Talk:

I teach my students that they should seek "distance from disorder" in their lives, and unless something shocks the consciousness of humanity, to mind their own business. Now I will also tell you that there is a vast gulf of difference between a suspicious black kid walking around the neighborhood, and an active shooter killing people in a restaurant. One is none of your personal business and more of a job for the police, the other...if you happen to be there, is in fact your business and your action can save many lives.

The difference between the two extremes is also one of timing. In the former, nothing has happened. In the latter, the bad guy has already opened the game. In one you are not certain of what is really happening, but with the other it is as clear as a slap in the face.
The power-of-the-gun-mentality does exist though - mainly in the minds of gang bangers and other assorted criminals.

Conformity Enforcers

"As you know, if you go to the average American newsroom you can have diversity of race, diversity of gender, diversity of orientation — everything except the only diversity that matters, which is diversity of thought," he said. "And the left does not want to celebrate diversity of thought. They rage against so-called intolerance, yet they themselves are stupefyingly intolerant."

"They are conformity enforcers,” he explained,” but they've co-opted all the light, fluffy, happy, smiley-faced buzzwords."

"That's the classic trick taught to us by Orwell explicitly in '1984.' People of a conservative disposition read that book and think he's warning of a dystopian future. People of the left read it and use it as a manual."

Never Flip Off a Cop

St. Cloud officer accidentally shot by fellow officer

True Colors

"We got to do something about these Asians coming in and opening up businesses and dirty shops, They ought to go. I'm going to say that right now. But we need African-American businesspeople to be able to take their places, too."

--Ward 8 D.C. Councilman Marion Barry
I'm guessing Asians don't vote for Marion Barry. Or does he harbor true racial prejudice? Why doesn't he steal the businesses and dirty shops from Asians and give them to random Africa-Americans in his district - worked out well for Zimbabwe.

They really call his district Ward 8? It sounds like a wing at a psychiatric hospital.

Michelle Malkin has more: Marion Barry and the Left's Hatred of Asian Entrepreneurs
As documented by my Twitter curation start-up Twitchy.com, Barry posted photos of supposedly hazardous stores -- including Chinese restaurants surrounded not by trash or toxic waste, but by Plexiglas barriers and reinforced doors. Barry explained that Asian-owned businesses that had the audacity to protect themselves from crime were "lowering standards" in his constituents' communities.

In Barry's bizarre world, law-abiding entrepreneurs who take steps to prevent robberies are the ones who threaten Ward 8's quality of life -- not the armed thugs who threaten honest livelihoods in the first place. Vigilant wealth creators taking care of their families? Scourge of D.C. Profanity-spewing drug addicts inciting hatred against successful achievers of the American Dream? Model citizens!

Crazy Barry doesn't just need another round of rehab. He needs a reality check.
Maybe it is a hospital wing.

How Dare You Pull Over Tyler Perry, Now You Must Pay

Tyler Perry Pulled Over, Accuses White Cops of Racial Profiling
Perry's predicament began when he admittedly made a left turn from a far-right lane -- a trick his security detail taught him, to make sure he wasn't being followed, Perry explained on Facebook.

Two white Atlanta police officers pulled him over, but apparently did not realize they'd just stopped Tyler Perry.
So he should get a pass because he is Tyler Perry? Did his security detail mention that it is illegal and dangerous to make a left turn from the far-right lane?
When Perry explained his illegal turn was to make sure no one was tailing him, one officer allegedly asked, "Why do you think someone would be following you?" Perry said in his post.
That is the first question that popped into my mind when I read that.
But then a second police cruiser pulled up, and a black Atlanta policeman emerged. "He took one look at me and had that 'Oh No' look on his face," Perry recounted.

The black officer spoke "in a hushed tone" to the two white officers, Perry said. "After that, one of the officers stayed near his car while one came back, very apologetic."
Instead of immediately thinking racism, perhaps he should consider that maybe the black officer recognized him, was a fan, and asked the other officers to give him a break.
The Atlanta police department's Office of Professional Standards is looking into Tyler Perry's racial-profiling claims, E! News reports.
Of course, waste more money investigating the delusions of a paranoid star.

The Perils of Popularity

Hackers hitting Macs with virus
"All the stuff the bad guys have learned for doing attacks in the PC world is now starting to transition to the Mac world,"
I got a chuckle out of the next quote.
"Mac has said for a long time that they are not vulnerable to PC malware, which is true; they are vulnerable to Mac malware."

What's Up With Fox News?

I always thought it awkward for the woman on Fox news having to sit on that sofa with their legs tightly crossed but I've noticed - at least in the early morning hours - they have a new set consisting of two high bar stool type chairs out in the open, usually occupied by two woman in very short dresses with legs tightly crossed - in fact looking like their legs are glued together. How uncomfortable can you make your reporters?

Don't they know you can do attractive without the gimmicks.

The Human Right to Self-Defense

When someone dies doing a dangerous thing, something that maybe they should not have been doing but for whatever reason they did, it is a tragedy. They didn't deserve the consequences of their actions but it WAS one of the consequences. They did it, they didn't have to do it, they chose to do it, the law of probability caught up with them. Done. Sucks, but we accept it.

It's 2am, I'm at work, I'm watching someone walking through the parking lot looking at the cars, they don't look like they belong there but they haven't done anything wrong. I'm just looking. This actually happens to me quite often. This is usually as far as it goes. He sees me, again, not unusual. I don't care if he sees me, I work here, it's my right to watch out for the place.

This time he takes offense but walks out of sight. I go back to my business. Next thing I know he attacks me, I fall. He's on top of me, he's bigger and stronger and I can't fight him off.

Do I know what his intentions are? Do I know if he has a weapon he hasn't gotten around to using yet? Do I know when he will stop - when I'm unconscious? Or dead? I have no clue, I didn't do anything to this guy. What do I do? Just be a victim? No, I live in Florida, I have a concealed weapons license and I'm carrying. I am able to get to the weapon and manage to get off a shot, he falls to the side. I get up and call 911. He dies from his injury.

Tragic? Yes. His family is upset, they don't think he deserved to die, he probably didn't. I didn't want to kill him, I just wanted him to stop attacking me. I used the necessary means to do so. In a life and death situation it is all or nothing. There's no time to test different degrees of force to see what works, you need him to stop - now.

This is a situation I never want to find myself in. The after effects of a self-defense situation like this are devastating to the deceased, to the victim who had to defend himself and to the families of both.
You have just ended the life of some mother’s child. You may have stared into the eyes of this person as the life drained out of them. You may have listened to the death rattle as they took their last breath. You may have heard this person’s last words, or you may have simply watched them kick until they were still.

Whichever, you have just breached the most sacred of Man’s taboos. You have done something that cannot be taken back, and you have done the single most powerful, awful thing one human being may do to another.

In addition, you’re going to be so jazzed on adrenaline that your teeth will hurt. Endorphins will mask any pain — and failing to find pain, they will be tweaking your inhibitions in 23 different directions. Your mind will have played tricks on you — sounds will have gone squirrelly; time will have done weird things.

And worst of all, you probably won’t remember entire sequences of what just happened. Self-doubt is going to jump on your back like an 800-pound gorilla with cold feet and clammy hands.

And you will want someone — anyone — to understand that you were forced to do this terrible act. You will want someone — anyone — to know, to understand, that you had no choice in breaking the ancient taboo against killing.

--From Meditations on Aftermath
I think the only thing worse than having to kill in self-defense is not being able to and your family having to deal with the situation alone.

"Grandma, I've Been Shot" Said Girl Hurt In Gang Related Mass Shooting
Fourteen people have been shot and two are dead in what may be one of the worst mass shootings in South Florida history.

Witnesses at the funeral home had said one of the two people killed was shot in the chest.

No arrests have been made.
Shot in the Chest? Where's the arrest? Oh, it's black on black, the mobs won't attack.

If it can't divide, we'll let it abide. If we can make it rhyme, he's gotta do time.
